Never before have so many world-famous musicians come together to shift the balance in an election. But these artists created the Vote for Change tour because they feel that this is the most important election in our nation's history. The schedule is designed to make a maximum impact: each of the concerts will occur in a key battleground state during the first and second weeks of October.
Like many MoveOn members, most of the artists have never been involved in electoral politics before. And like many of us, they're jumping in now because they believe there's just too much at stake on November 2nd to sit on the sidelines. Here's how Dave Matthews put it:
"A vote for change is a vote for a stronger, safer, healthier America. . . It is our duty to this beautiful land to let our voices be heard. That's the reason for the tour. That's why I'm doing it."
Tickets go on sale to the public on Saturday, August 21st, but we have hundreds of tickets to each show that we'll be able to offer to MoveOn members -- and anyone who joins MoveOn -- a few days before. To check out the tour dates and sign up for a chance for pre-sale tickets, just go to:
http://www.moveonpac.org/vfc/
Please pass this link on to friends and colleagues. As long as people who click it agree to receive MoveOn emails, they'll have a shot at the pre-sale tickets.
We're partnering in this effort with America Coming Together (ACT), the terrific on-the-ground organization which is reaching out to millions of voters during the run-up to the election. ACT will receive all of the proceeds from the ticket sales. (There are some important legal disclaimers on this below.)
The Vote for Change tour is going to be a clear, passionate, and powerful call to arms for folks in the key battleground states and beyond. But the incredible array of artists involved is also a tremendous endorsement of the work we're all doing together -- a cultural event that will strengthen our voice in national politics.
Thanks for making this possible, through everything you do.
Sincerely,
--Eli Pariser

P.S. By purchasing tickets to these concerts, you will be making a political contribution to ACT, subject to the limitations and restrictions of federal campaign laws. Contributions to ACT are not deductible for federal income tax purposes."
P.P.S. In a climate where artists are often reprimanded for speaking out against the President, signing on to do this tour is a sign of real courage. If you'd like to send a short message of appreciation and encouragement to the artists for their willingness to speak out, just click here:

It's Your Environment- Act
From the DSCC:
We have less than 90 days to put our country back on the right path. Less than 90 days to ensure that everyday issues, like clean air and clean water, are once again a priority, and less than 90 days to get rid of a right-wing Republican agenda that has repeatedly trampled on our natural resources.
As former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator appointed by President Clinton, it has been disappointing to watch as the Bush administration and their Republican allies in Congress have unraveled the thirty years of progress our country has made on environmental protection. They have put the health and safety of our communities at risk by
- Gutting our clean air and water laws;
- Cutting pollution enforcement budgets; and
- Refusing to make polluters pay to clean up their toxic dump sites.
Our best chance for making environmental protection a priority is by putting Democrats back in control of the White House and the Congress. John Kerry must have a Democratic Senate on his side—together they will make the difference in cleaning up our air and water and protecting our families from pollution. The DSCC is working hard to make sure our Democratic incumbents and challengers have the support they need to fight the good fight.
Every dollar you give to the DSCC helps put Democratic candidates one step closer to victory. Every dollar you give is a vote for the environment, a vote for our children’s future.
We have never been so close. We are just two seats away and we have never needed a Democratic Senate more than we need it now.
Bent on putting polluter profits ahead of public health, the Republicans have refused to force power plants to cut air pollution linked to asthma. Worst of all, they have proposed a plan that would delay and weaken requirements for coal-fired power plants to reduce their emissions of poisonous mercury. Mercury is known to cause birth defects and even learning disabilities and this proposal only serves to put another generation of children at risk. A Democratic majority in the Senate will help put the laws in place that will change the destructive path we are on and steer us toward a more sustainable and healthy environment.
Over the past year, the DSCC has sent over 4.7 million emails, resulting in contributions and actions by almost 15,000 people and over 3,000 new signups to our email list. We must bring as many new people as possible over the threshold from reading to action, so now we are asking directly- if you have not yet given to the DSCC this cycle, please consider doing so today.
Please help put a Democratic majority in the Senate and make the environment a priority again. Contribute today.
Sincerely,
Carol Browner
Former EPA Administrator

From www.moveonpac.org:
Who would have guessed? When we asked MoveOn members last month for their stories for a Real People ad campaign, we got hundreds of responses from members -- Republicans, Democrats and Independents -- who voted for George Bush in 2000, but will be voting for Kerry in 2004. These stories of disaffection are the most powerful statements we've found about the failed Bush presidency. We will highlight these personal stories in an ad campaign to be televised during the Republican convention -- and we want to know which ones move you the most.
In the last two weeks, Academy Award-winning documentary film director Errol Morris has been interviewing these former Bush voters on camera, and he's cut seventeen ads that tell their stories. We're running a contest to help us choose the ads that will best convince undecided and swing voters to vote for John Kerry. We'll run them during the Republican convention. Vote now at:
http://www.moveonpac.org/morris/
Please vote for your favorites, and then tell your friends about this contest. Votes will be taken until midnight Eastern Time on Wednesday, August 11th, and then we'll put the people's choice winner into final production for airing.
As these ads show, support for George Bush is unraveling, even in his traditional base. We hear every day about more prominent Bush defections, from business leaders to four star generals. At first, the administration tried to silence these voices by launching attacks on people like Richard Clarke, the Bush administration's own counter-terrorism chief. But now there are too many people stepping forward to make that possible. On the same day last week that Bruce Springsteen and dozens of artists announced their Vote for Change tour, Peter Chernin, President and COO of News Corp, which owns Fox News, announced his support for John Kerry.
But the most compelling voices we've heard come from MoveOn members themselves -- Americans from all walks of life deciding that it's time for a change.
If you don't have time to review and rate the ads, but can help support the campaign, go to:
https://www.moveonpac.org/donate/
If we get enough support we'll be airing the best of these ads on nation-wide television during the Republican Convention.
Thanks to the thousands of MoveOn members who submitted personal stories for this campaign, and to those of you who took interviews with Errol Morris. We wish we could have used them all. Thank you for your commitment and courage,
--Wes Boyd and the whole MoveOn PAC team
Monday, August 9th, 2004.
P.S. Here's a note from Errol Morris about his vision for this campaign:
A NOTE FROM ERROL MORRIS
Director of the academy award-winning documentary THE FOG OF WAR.
I have been struck by the eloquence of ordinary citizens. And I have thought in the context of the 2004 campaign, rather than have pollsters talk to the American people, why not have the American people talk to the American people -- in their own words? Who better to express the current concern with the direction in which America is going? Who better to express the dreams and aspirations of Americans? Who better to express their hopes for change?
Many of us have very strong feelings and beliefs about what has happened in the last four years in our country. But there is also a growing concern with what could happen in the next four years. Is this country heading in the right direction? What is our vision of America? Is it being realized?
MoveOn has pioneered a new kind politics with populist roots. It has allowed Americans to speak directly to other Americans.
This is a very simple idea. A different kind of political advertising. Not a prepared speech. Not a voice-over narrative, but rather Americans speaking one on one. Americans speaking to other Americans in their own words, expressing their beliefs and their hopes for the future.
Americans explaining why this election is not just another election, but an election that will define how America is perceived around the world and just as important, what America is for all of us.
None of this can be done -- as in all of what MoveOn has achieved -- without you.

ACT Here: Find Events!
Use this site to learn about all kinds of volunteer opportunities. Check back regularly to find out what's going on. You can search by zip code for ACT offices, ACT volunteer events, other grassroots events, and people.
If you're in a swing state, type in your zip code and call the volunteer office in your area to ask about what's going on. If you're not in a swing state, organize your own events -- to travel to swing states to canvass, to phone bank swing states, or to work on local GOTV activities. If you set up a phone banking party on August 21, we'll send you phone numbers of people who we need to identify within swing states. Go to our activist center for volunteer coordinators across the country.

A Democrat victory will only happen if we win in the field, in the battlegrounds. The people who aren’t paying attention now aren’t going to decide next week. They’ll chose in the last two weeks, the last 48 hours, and when they enter the poll booth and start reading the ballot.
That means we have time, about 10 weeks, to focus on organizing. For us to crescendo, we need to get the orchestra practicing. We need to start a band.
In time honored tradition, starting a band involves postering. I recommend coffee shops and bars, but you can also poster your blog.
Around five in the morning on election day, we’re going to think back to the things we did, or should have done, in August. We all know we need to build an army. But this year, that involves a lot more than going down to the Party HQ Saturday morning. Campaign finance reform means we need to build our victory with the largest coalition in the history of politics. Your blog can join the Democratic coalition and help recruit the soldiers.
Every page directing the organizing of our campaign is crucial. There will be an amazingly large number of people who will read a blog before the election that’s written by somebody who thinks we can do better than Bush. When people read your blog and you fire them up with your posts, they need to be able to quickly and easily turn their interest into action. We need to sign them up. All of them.
Now is the time to update your blog template to include links directing people to join the effort. If bloggers start to direct recruiting now, their post and achieve pages will add up to a large presence by the election. Multiplied together, we can create an overwhelming array of hypertext organizing.
